Account & Data Deletion

Effective date: September 15, 2026

You can delete your OwnVouch account and request deletion of your personal data at any time. There are two ways to do it: from inside the app, or by email if you no longer have the app or can't sign in. This page walks through both, and explains exactly what is removed, what is kept for a limited time, and what can't be removed at all.

Before you delete

  • Deletion is irreversible once processed. Your device records, certificates, and passport entries can't be restored to your account afterwards.
  • Export anything you want to keep. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access and export your data; you can exercise most rights in the app under Settings, or by emailing privacy@ownvouch.com.
  • Only want to fix something? You don't have to delete your account to correct inaccurate information or restrict how it's used — see Your rights in the Privacy Policy.

In the app

  1. Open the OwnVouch app and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Delete account.
  3. Confirm. Your account is scheduled for deletion.

This works whether or not you still have the app installed on the device tied to your account, as long as you can sign in.

From the web (no app required)

If you've uninstalled the app or can't sign in, email privacy@ownvouch.com from the address or phone number on your account (or provide other reasonable proof of identity) requesting deletion, and we will process it within 30 days.

To help us find your account quickly, include:

  • The email address or phone number you signed up with
  • A clear statement that you want your account and personal data deleted
  • If you're writing from a different address, the proof of identity you're relying on

What happens when you delete your account

  • Your profile, sign-in credentials, and contact information are deleted.
  • Devices solely owned by you are disassociated from your identity; a masked ownership-history entry may remain on a device's record so that future owners retain an accurate chain of custody, without identifying you.
  • Records we are legally required to keep (for example, KYC/anti-fraud records tied to a completed transfer, or an open dispute) are retained for the period described in our Privacy Policy, then deleted.
  • Cryptographic hashes previously anchored to the audit blockchain cannot be deleted or altered — they are mathematically one-way and contain no personal data, device identifiers, or document contents, so their permanence does not expose your information.
  • Deletion is irreversible once processed.

What's deleted, what's kept, and for how long

DataOn deletion
Profile, sign-in credentials, email, phone numberDeleted
Devices solely owned by youDisassociated from your identity; a masked history entry may remain so the device's chain of custody stays accurate
Identity-verification results and transaction recordsKept as anti-fraud records, typically for 12 months after the relevant transaction (longer only where law requires), then deleted
Raw ID document images and selfiesAlready gone — deleted once verification completes and never stored on OwnVouch's own systems (see Identity Verification)
Records tied to an open disputeKept for a limited period to resolve the dispute, then deleted
Audit-log hashes anchored on-chainPermanent by design; contain no personal data

Common questions

Can I undo a deletion?

No. Once a deletion has been processed it can't be reversed. If you want to use OwnVouch again later, you'll need a new account, and devices will need to be registered again.

Will a future owner of my device see who I am?

No. Any history entry that remains on a device's record is masked. Even while your account is active, a public lookup never shows your full name, email, or phone number.

Why can't everything be deleted immediately?

Some records protect other people: identity-verification and transaction records help prevent fraud and stolen-device laundering, and may be required by law. They're kept only for the period described in the Privacy Policy.

Why can't the on-chain hashes be removed?

The audit trail periodically anchors a cryptographic digest to a public blockchain so that records can't be quietly edited. A hash is one-way: it can't be turned back into the data it summarises, and nothing personal is ever written on-chain.

What if my data was provided by someone under 18?

OwnVouch is only for adults. Email privacy@ownvouch.com and we will delete it.
